Our Mission

Foothills Area Health Education Center (AHEC) is a community-driven, non-profit organization serving northeast Georgia supported by federal, state, and local funds. Our mission is to partner with communities to recruit, train, and retain healthcare professionals in our region and to improve their supply and distribution in medically underserved areas, ultimately improving the health of our citizens. Our center is one of six AHECs in Georgia's network and one of 178 AHECs nationwide

Our Program Areas

RECRUIT: Exposing youth and adults to careers in healthcare by offering outreach presentations, camps, conferences, and resources in collaboration with educational partners

TRAIN: Supporting advanced practice students during community-based training by offering clinical placement assistance, housing, and travel support

​

RETAIN: Making Georgia a better place to work for healthcare professionals to provide incentives and continuing education in collaboration with community partners and state leaders

Foothills AHEC serves 31 counties in Georgia: Banks, Barrow, Clarke, Columbia, Elbert, Franklin, Glascock, Greene, Gwinnett, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Jackson, Lincoln, Lumpkin, Madison, McDuffie, Morgan, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Putnam, Rabun, Richmond, Stephens, Taliaferro, Towns, Union, Walton, Warren, White, and Wilkes.
