Foothills AHEC Preceptorship Program

Preceptors are healthcare providers who choose to actively participate in the education of our future healthcare providers by offering clinical training opportunities to students enrolled in health professions programs at various educational institutions.

The mission of Foothills AHEC is to increase the quality, supply, and education of health professionals in northeast Georgia. One of the ways we accomplish this is through partnerships with our local healthcare providers who participate in our Preceptorship Program. They are instrumental in helping us "grow our own" health professionals. This is a vital to sustaining our healthcare workforce because studies have shown that students are more likely to practice in the communities where they were trained.

Developing and coordinating community based clinical sites is a major function of Foothills AHEC. With the increasing number of health professions schools requiring off-campus experiences, there is an increasing demand for quality training sites for various types of healthcare professions students. We offer several quality community-based training sites outside the major academic centers that are presently serving students enrolled in medical, dental, physician assistant, nurse practitioner, and other allied health programs. However, there continues to be a need for more sites and preceptors who are willing to give their time to train these future healthcare providers.

We are currently looking for individuals who are interested in participating in our Preceptorship Program. If you are interested, please complete our New Preceptor Application form or if you know of a healthcare provider who would be a great addition to our program, please complete our Preceptor Recruitment form.
